2012 was a good year for local baseball fans, as the Asheville Tourists were South Atlantic League Champions.

It was bittersweet however, as it was also the last year for longtime manager Joe Mikulik.

Not only was "Mik" a great manager (3-time SAL Manager of the Year, over 800 wins as Tourists skipper, South Atlantic League Hall-of-Famer), but he was also immensely entertaining. I've never known anyone so passionate about, well...anything. As his friend, I've seen it on the golf course, fantasy football draft, even a family picnic! But on the baseball diamond is where it was truly displayed.

Several of his outbursts made him a YouTube star and minor celebrity. (Look up "Joe Mikulik Meltdown" or click the YouTube link above).

He is currently manager of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, and it's good to know that Joe hasn't lost his edge, as evidenced by his latest theatrics, last night.

The Asheville Tourists have a pretty good team, again, this year, and may very well be headed toward another SAL Championship. We may see them lift the trophy, but we'll never see anyone quite like Joe, again.
