Incumbents Win Primaries In 10th And 11th Districts (Undated)

Phillip Price will challenge Republican incumbent Mark Meadows for Western North Carolina's 11th Congressional district race in November.  Democrats chose Price with close to 41 percent of the unofficial vote in yesterday's primary.  The next closest candidate was Steve Woodsmall with just over 31 percent.  Meadows handily won the Republican primary.  Republican Patrick McHenry will seek another term in office after his 10th Congressional district primary win.  He faces Democratic candidate David Wilson Brown of Gaston County, who was unopposed in the primary. 

Buncombe DA Takes Democratic Primary (Asheville, NC)

Buncombe County's district attorney is looking at four more years in office.  Todd Williams edged out criminal defense attorney Ben Scales in Tuesday's Democratic primary.  There were no challengers from any other parties.  Buncombe County Democrats are also sending the county's first African-American major party sheriff's nominee into the November general election.  Asheville Police Sergeant Quentin Miller easily won the Democratic primary.  

Asheville Schools To Close On Day Of Teacher Rally (Asheville, NC)

More than 60 teachers from Asheville City Schools are expected to head to a march in Raleigh next week.  Superintendent Denise Patterson has now decided to call off school on May 16th because she says classes can't be conducted effectively.  Teachers from across the state plan to march at the state capitol on the first day of the legislative session to bring focus on better pay and teaching conditions.  Buncombe County Schools has yet to make an announcement. 

Four-Year-Old Dies After Fall From Window (Transylvania County, NC)

A child who fell from a window at a home near Brevard last Friday is dead.  Transylvania County Sheriff David Mahoney says four-year-old Keegan Bland died from his injuries over the weekend.  The sheriff's office is investigating the incident to find out exactly what happened.    

Franklin High Student Charged For "Hit List" (Macon County, NC)

A Macon County student accused of creating a "hit list" that contained the names of Franklin High School's principal and some students is now facing charges of communicating threats and threatening an officer.  Sheriff Robert Holland said a mix of rifles and handguns were recovered from the bedroom of the 16-year-old male suspect.  The teen and his girlfriend allegedly made the list to exact revenge on fellow students.  He is currently in jail at the Macon County Detention Center.

Asheville Called Most Hospitable By Airbnb (Asheville, NC)

Airbnb is calling Asheville the most hospitable city in the country.  The company took cities with the highest percentage of five-star ratings from its guests and Asheville landed number one.  Guests called the city warm and inviting.  Two other southeastern cities listed in the top ten were Nashville and Charleston.  Airbnb expects 850-thousand travelers to rent from its listings over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
