North Carolina Senators Supporting Kavanaugh (Washington, DC)

North Carolina's U.S. Senators are applauding President Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh.  Senator Thom Tillis called Kavanaugh a "mainstream and fair-minded judge," while Richard Burr says the President put forth a highly qualified candidate.  The conservative Kavanaugh would replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, if he makes it through the Senate's confirmation process.   

Asheville Murder Suspect Back In Jail (Asheville, NC)

An Asheville murder suspect is back in jail for violating terms in his pretrial release.  Derrick Jamal Edwards was arrested after he allegedly damaged his electronic monitoring device while swimming.  The terms of his release advised he wasn't supposed to submerge the device in water.  Edwards is accused of shooting and killing an 18-year-old in a Dollar General parking lot in January.  

Lenoir Woman Charged In Overdose Death (Lenoir, NC)

A Lenoir woman is facing a second-degree murder charge for allegedly providing drugs in a fatal overdose.  Lenoir police investigators say Erica Haas gave fentanyl to Hanna Kincaid, who died in May after taking the drug.  Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid, which has been linked to thousands of deaths nationwide in the past year. 

Reward Offered For Murder Suspect With Ties To NC (New Haven, CT)

U.S. Marshals are offering a 30-thousand-dollar reward for information on a murder suspect that has ties to North Carolina.  Police in Connecticut say Tramaine Marquise Poole has been on the run since a late May shooting death.  He also allegedly attempted to kill his estranged wife earlier in the month.  Investigators say he is considered armed and dangerous.

Allegiant Air Pilots May Strike (Asheville, NC)

Travelers out of Asheville Regional Airport could soon be affected by a pilot strike.  The pilot's union for Allegiant Air said most of the airline's pilots had voted for a strike due to scheduling problems.  The union's chairman says a strike will be a last resort.  Allegiant Air has been operating in Asheville for seven years.   

Henderson County Groups Failing To Get Permits For Rallies (Henderson County, NC)

Henderson County officials say multiple groups haven't been getting permits to hold rallies or events at the Historic Courthouse in downtown Hendersonville.  County Manager Steve Wyatt told commissioners that the latest group to hold a rally, Progressive Organized Women, didn't apply for permission to use the space.  At least four other events have been held there in the past four months with no permit.  Wyatt says there's no punishment, but they don't want any spaces to get double-booked.
