Pinehurst Funeral For NC Native And Daughters Slain in Colorado (Pinehurst, NC)

Funeral services for a North Carolina native and her two daughters will be held in Pinehurst on Saturday.  The bodies of Shanann Watts, who was pregnant, and the girls were found on the property of an oil and gas driller in Colorado this month.  Watts' husband has been charged with the murders.  The two were married in Charlotte in 2012.  The services begin at one Saturday afternoon at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.  

Firm Makes Police Recommendations To City Council (Asheville, NC)

A consulting firm is suggesting that the Asheville Police Department revise its recruitment process.  The firm 21CP Solutions presented city commissioners with recommendations last night after the group was hired to review the case of Johnnie Rush, who was shown on video footage being beaten by an officer last year.  WLOS-TV says the firm also recommended a routine assessment of early intervention system triggers.  The council is expected to discuss the report before addressing it at a public meeting in late September.    

Two Die In Head-On Crash (Lenoir, NC)

Lenoir Police are investigating a head-on crash that killed two people yesterday.  The two cars collided on Lower Creek Drive in Caldwell County.  Investigators revealed that multiple children were injured as well.  

Bear Shows Up, High School Locked Down (Asheville, NC)

Asheville High administrators say a bear sighting caused a brief lockdown before the second day of class.  The bear was spotted on the neighboring campus of A-B Tech a little after eight yesterday morning.  An Asheville City Schools spokeswoman told the Citizen-Times there was no threat to students.  She said it's just a part of living in the mountains.    

Slow-Moving Train Hits Car (Asheville, NC)

Asheville Police say a slow-moving train hit a car on Tuesday afternoon.  The SUV was pulling out of a private driveway when the Norfolk Southern train hit it on Riverside Drive.  The car was pushed down the tracks until the train was able to stop.  There was some passenger side damage to the SUV, but luckily no one was injured.  

Asheville Company Recalling Medicines (Asheville, NC)

An Asheville-based pharmaceutical company is adding more than 50 adult products to its nationwide recall of potentially contaminated medicines.  King Bio recalled 32 kids' medicines citing fears about the risk of life-threatening microbial infections less than a week ago.  The company has now recalled all of its water-based medicines, homeopathic products used to treat everything from allergies to migraines.  The FDA says there've been no reports of illness, but King Bio says it's issued the recall out of an abundance of caution.

Trump To Sign Executive Order In Charlotte (Charlotte, NC)

The signing of an executive order is now on the table as part of President Trump's visit to Charlotte on Friday.  He plans to stop by the Harris Conference Center at Central Piedmont Community College to sign his name on an order called Strengthening Retirement Security in America.  This follows his appearance at a private fundraising luncheon for congressional candidates Mark Harris and incumbent Ted Budd at Carmel Country Club.
