Supreme Court Rules Against Amendments Lawsuits (Raleigh, NC)

The North Carolina Supreme Court is ruling against two lawsuits filed in an effort to keep four constitutional amendments off the ballot.  Governor Cooper tried to block two amendments that would reduce his office's power because he says the ballot language was misleading.  The state's GOP chair said the people of North Carolina are capable of understanding the amendments.  An appeal from the NAACP was turned down over proposals that would require ID when voting and decrease the maximum on the income tax rate. 

Plane Makes Emergency Landing On Lake (Arden, NC)

A seaplane pilot is safe after making an emergency landing on Lake Julian yesterday.  Skyland's fire chief says the plane had mechanical issues with the landing gear.  The pilot reportedly felt more comfortable landing the plane on the lake rather than trying to make it back to Asheville Regional Airport.  The lake's park supervisor told the Citizen-Times that the outcome couldn't have turned out any better.    

Man Dies In Fire (Alexander County, NC)

A deadly mobile home fire is being investigated in Alexander County.  Neighbors say they heard an explosion at the time of the fire north of Taylorsville early Tuesday.  One man was found dead inside.  Fire investigators believe it was accidental and the explosion may have been caused by oxygen tanks. 

Resource Officers Added In Buncombe Schools (Buncombe County, NC)

Six resource officers are being added in Buncombe County schools.  The school system will use a grant from the state superintendent's office to offset the hiring cost.  They'll have to reapply for the grant in 2020, as it's only good for two years.  County commissioners also approved over one-point-eight-million-dollars to be used by Buncombe County and Asheville City Schools, which will help fund teacher pay raises.

Arson Investigated At Mobile Home (Candler, NC)

Investigators believe a fire may have been intentionally set at a Buncombe County mobile home last weekend.  The fire began underneath the home on Paradise Ridge Road in Candler and burned the wood frame and siding.  A mother and her five-year-old daughter made it out safely.  WLOS-TV says a dog alerted some neighbors who came to help.        

Asheville And Boone Among Best Places To Retire (Asheville, NC)

Two North Carolina cities are considered by Forbes to be great places to retire.  Asheville comes in as one of the 25 cities the magazine rated around the country.  Good climate and abundant doctors helped land the city on the list.  The magazine says Boone's low serious crime rate and college town vibe make it an attractive place to settle down

Husband And Wife Arrested For Lincolnton Murder (Lincolnton, NC)

A husband and wife are in Lincoln County jail for a Tuesday morning murder.  Lincolnton Police found the victim lying in a parking lot of a business on East Main Street.  Witnesses say he had been assaulted.  Jason and Carolyn Carwile were arrested on charges of murder and remain behind bars without bond.
