On Saturday, November 10, Veterans Day Weekend, hundreds of classic cars will be on display at Asheville Outlets, 800 Brevard Road, Asheville, N.C. in the parking lot next to Field and Stream as part of Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry’s (ABCCM’s) Patriots & Legends Car Show. But far more than a car show, all proceeds will help fund ABCCM’s transitional housing programs for formerly homeless male veterans the Veterans Restoration Quarters and female veterans and their children, Steadfast House in Buncombe County. Combined it’s the third largest in the US. The other program, Veterans Services of the Carolinas, is ABCCM’s only regional veterans program covering twenty-six counties of Western North Carolina from Cherokee to Mecklenburg. It’s a live call center for veterans, active military and military families, rapid rehousing and employment services reaches twenty-six counties from Mecklenburg to Cherokee.
In addition to the cars and concert, the Marine Corp League will provide a color guard and live National Anthem. The Harley Owners Group will then perform a drive-through parade of motorcycles covered in flags and patriotic decorations. The North Carolina National Guard will bring their thirty-foot climbing wall, local food trucks will be onsite including Doc Brown’s BBQ, Deli Volv, Prime Time Eats and Bun Intended. American Legion Post 526 will host a 50-50 drawing, and there will be a silent auction.
The car show portion of the event lasts from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Custom car show trophies will be awarded for top ten, best in show, sponsors choice and veterans’ choice. The Joe Lasher concert will last from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The concert is free with a requested contribution to ABCCM during the concert, and all proceeds throughout the event go to ABCCM’s services to veterans.
