Two Arrested After Rutherford County Shooting (Rutherford County, NC)

Deputies are investigating a shooting in Rutherford County.  Two suspects face charges after a man was found shot in the abdomen on Jacob's Lane in Forest City this week.  They allegedly ran away from the scene, but were arrested a short time later by Rutherford County deputies.  One of the suspects was charged with having a weapon of mass destruction.

Flood Warning On French Broad (Henderson County, NC)

Heavy rains are causing problems in parts of Western North Carolina.  The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the French Broad River at Blantyre.  It will affect Henderson and Transylvania counties.  The flood warning has been extended through tomorrow morning.    

Family Displaced In Henderson County Fire (Henderson County, NC)

The Red Cross is helping one Henderson County affected by a fire yesterday.  Flames spread through the garage and two rooms at a home in the Edneyville community around 4 p.m.  A family of five was displaced.  Fire officials said the entire home had smoke damage.

Amnesty Day In Buncombe County This Friday (Buncombe County, NC)

Amnesty Day is coming up in Buncombe County.  Those with an order for arrest or warrant for traffic citations and misdemeanor offenses have a chance at moving towards clearing their names up.  The county is looking to unclog court dockets by scheduling new court dates.  The amnesty period is tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon at the Buncombe County Judicial Complex.

Community Helping To Rebuild Bus Stop Shelter (Asheville, NC)

The Montford community in Asheville is looking for help in rebuilding one of its bus stop shelters.  It will cost an estimated 14-thousand dollars to rebuild the structure destroyed by a drunk driver last May.  WLOS-TV says a GoFundMe page will be taking donations for the project beginning February 1st.  Some restaurants have announced drives to help out. 

One Shot Near Gaston College (Dallas, NC)

Investigators are looking into details of a shooting near Gaston College in Dallas yesterday.  The school was placed on lockdown while officers were on the scene.  NBC Charlotte says a car parked at a nearby McDonald's was possibly connected and investigated.  The condition of the victim is unknown.

CMPD Investigates Shooting (Charlotte, NC)

One person is being treated for life-threatening injuries in a Wednesday night shooting in southeast Charlotte.  The CMPD says the victim drove to Charlotte Fire Station Three after being shot on Monroe Road.  There are no details on what happened in the shooting.  Medics rushed the victim from the station to Carolinas Medical Center.

Mental Health Clinicians To Respond With Police (Charlotte, NC)

Mental health clinicians will soon be able to respond to calls alongside police officers when needed in Charlotte.  It's part of a three-and-a-half-million-dollar initiative that is expected to aid people in post-crisis care and help with certain medications.  Chief Kerr Putney said the clinicians will be avoiding any case in which weapons come out.

Driver Dies After Slamming Into Back Of Truck (Charlotte, NC)

The CMPD says a woman died yesterday after her car slammed into the back of a Freightliner truck in west Charlotte.  Officers say the truck was parked on the side of West Boulevard with the flashers on when the wreck happened.  No one was inside the truck.  The woman driving the car later died at the hospital.

Hornets Take Down Grizzlies (Memphis, TN)

The Hornets are hanging on to a playoff spot with more than half the season complete.  Charlotte took down the Grizzlies 118-to-107 in Memphis last night.  Kemba Walker led the way with 22 points and seven assists.  The Hornets currently hold the seventh spot in the playoffs.

Manufacturing Plant To Open In Rock Hill (Rock Hill, SC)

A new manufacturing facility is opening this March in Rock Hill.  Eclipse Automation is investing close to five-million-dollars in a 57-thousand-square-foot building.  Around 90 jobs will be added there in the next five years.  The company also has an office in Charlotte.

Deputies Arrest A Woman For The Deaths Of 22 Horses (Wake Co., NC)

A woman is facing charges for 22-horses found starved to death in Wake County.  The horses, and one dog, were all found dead Friday at a home on Fanny Brown Road.  Now, 64-year-old Janet Burleson is charged with killing an animal by starvation and felony animal cruelty.  Police say the horses were locked in a small pen and deprived of food or water.  Burleson is behind bars on 250-thousand-dollars bond.  

A Raleigh Rape Suspect Is Held On 1.34 Million Dollars Bond (Raleigh, NC)

A Raleigh man is accused of violently raping a woman.  Raleigh police say last month, 41-year-old Kowalski Reese beat, strangled, raped and robbed a woman in an apparent random attack.  Police didn't say where the attack happened.  Reese was in court yesterday and is jailed on more than one-million-dollars bond.  He has been charged at least nine times for various crimes over the years, and if convicted this time, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Deputies: An Area Teacher Killed In A Murder Suicide (Wilson, NC)

Wilson County deputies say a woman killed in a murder-suicide was a local teacher.  Deputies say Anthony Eatmon killed his wife Pamela Eatmon Tuesday night before killing himself.  Pamela Eatmon was a teacher at Ralph L. Fike High School.  The school released a statement saying Mrs. Pamela Eatmon was a wonderful teacher who will be missed.  They offered counseling to students who need it.

A Durham Manhunt Ends With The Capture Of A Murder Suspect (Durham, NC)

A Durham murder suspect is behind bars.  Police had been looking for Joshua McClain for the 2018 shooting death of Ly Nhiayi, and yesterday they announced he had been caught in Cary.  Nhiayi was found shot to death in a burning car.  McClain is one of four men facing charges in connection with the killing.  He's now in jail on 100-thousand-dollars bond.

A Fort Bragg Soldier Was Killed In Afghanistan

A soldier stationed at Fort Bragg is being mourned after he was killed in Afghanistan.  The Department of Defense says 32-year-old Army Sergeant Joshua Beale of Virginia died on Tuesday.  He died from enemy fire during a combat operation in Tarin Kowt, Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan.  This is the second U.S. service member killed in action in Afghanistan this year.

Alamance Narcotics Officers Shot At During Investigation (Alamance Co., NC)

No one is hurt after shots were fired at Alamance narcotics officers.  It happened last night during an investigation near Mebane Oaks Road, south of Mebane.  While officers were canvassing the area, several shots were fired in their direction.  Three people were taken into custody.  An investigation is ongoing.

High Point PD: String Of Shootings Linked To Gangs (High Point, NC)

High Point police say a string of shootings in the city over the holiday weekend is linked to gangs.  They say there were seven different incidents between Saturday and Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Officers plan on focusing on certain areas to help cut down on the problem. 

High Point Businessman Pleads Guilty To Embezzlement (High Point, NC)

A High Point businessman accused of embezzlement will spend 90 days behind bars as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.  Paul Riggan pled guilty to three counts of embezzlement this past Friday in Wake County Superior Court.  He owns Gate City Catering and Soho Food Group, which operate several restaurants in the area, and stole nearly 200-thousand dollars in sales tax.  Riggan paid restitution prior to his court appearance. 

Search Continues For Missing Toddler From Craven Co. (Craven Co., NC)

The search continues for a missing toddler in Craven County.  Deputies say three-year-old Casey Hathaway vanished Tuesday afternoon from his grandmother's home in Ernul.  Sheriff's officials say he was playing with two other children outside and disappeared after they went back in.  An AMBER Alert has been issued.  Casey is described as white, about 25 pounds with blonde hair and brown eyes.  He was last seen wearing a blue coat and dark pants.  Multiple law enforcement agencies are trying to find him. 

Freezing Rain Delays, Cancels Classes (Winston-Salem, NC)

The freezing rain and hazardous road conditions caused more than a dozen schools in the Triad to either delay or cancel classes yesterday.  Forecasters say accumulation was light, but it was enough to slicken area roadways.  Heavy showers and gusty winds are on tap for this morning, promoting a Hazardous Weather Outlook.  The rain is expected to taper off by the afternoon.
