WNC Congressman Says Time To Move On After Mueller Report

(Washington, DC) -- A Western North Carolina Congressman is calling for people to move on from the Russia investigation. Republican Mark Meadows said yesterday that the Mueller report found no collusion or no obstruction. Attorney General William Barr revealed the investigation found no evidence that President Trump or any members of his campaign conspired with Russia during the 2016 election. President Trump said the entire Russia probe was an "illegal takedown that failed."

Marshals Seek Fugitive In Buncombe County

(Buncombe County, NC) -- U.S. Marshals are looking for a fugitive that may be hiding out in Buncombe County. Anthony Orlando Bowers is accused of fleeing the scene of a wreck with an Asheville police car on South French Broad Avenue in early December. The officer was seriously injured. Bowers is wanted for more than a dozen charges, including felony hit-and-run and assault on a law enforcement officer.

Asheville Councilwoman Running For State Senate

(Asheville, NC) -- An Asheville city councilwoman is making plans to run for state Senate. Julie Mayfield announced her candidacy for district 49 at Buncombe County's annual Democratic Convention on Saturday. State Senator Terry Van Duyn of Asheville isn't seeking re-election in order to run for lieutenant governor. District 49 covers most of Asheville and Buncombe County.

Search Continues For Missing Watauga County Man

(Boone, NC) -- Search crews are continuing to look for a Watauga County man who disappeared more than ten days ago. The Watauga Democrat is reporting that TJ Trivette was last seen near the Avery County line around U.S. 321 North on March 13th. The county's emergency management agency says more than 900 acres in Watauga and Avery counties have been searched. Trivette's car was found two days after he disappeared, while some boots that may be his were found last Wednesday.

Rolling Stone Calls Asheville New Must-Visit Music City

(Asheville, NC) -- Rolling Stone is praising Asheville as the new must-visit music city. The longtime music publication said in an article last week that Asheville has well-known brewery and outdoor industries, but it's the music that ties the community together. Former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Warren Haynes told the magazine that the city has a bohemian subculture that is really impressive and organic.

California Avocados Distributed In NC Being Recalled

(Escondido, CA) -- A California grower is recalling avocados sold in North Carolina grocery stores because routine tests have found the fruit might be contaminated by Listeria. The Henry Avocado Corporation is pulling its California-grown conventional and organic avocados from stores. A company statement says they were distributed in North Carolina and five other states. No illnesses have been reported.

Police Seek Suspect In Movie Theater Shooting

(Concord, NC) -- Investigators are looking for the suspect in a Concord movie theater shooting. Officers say a man was shot inside AMC Concord Mills 24 early Sunday evening during an argument over a seat in the theater. Injuries were considered non-life-threatening. The mall was completely closed, but police didn't consider it an active shooter situation.

One Dead In SW Charlotte Homicide

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a homicide in southwest Charlotte. A man was shot multiple times outside an apartment complex on Parkaire Lane at South Tryon Saturday afternoon. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage in hopes of identifying a suspect.

Search Continues For Missing Woman

(Charlotte, NC) -- The search for a missing Charlotte woman is continuing. Vatsla Watkins has now been missing for a week since she reportedly left home in a 2004 Silver Mercedes. That car was found parked at a marina on Lake Wylie early Friday morning. Search teams went out by boat, but found nothing.

Deadly Hit-And-Run Driver Arrested

(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say the driver of a deadly hit-and-run has turned herself in. A man died on Friday night on West Boulevard when his motorcycle and a car allegedly driven by Vonda Steward collided. Witnesses said Steward got out of the car and ran away. She now faces charges of misdemeanor death by vehicle, felony hit-and-run and driving with a revoked license.

Million-Dollar Ticket Sold In Gaston County

(Gaston County, NC) -- Someone who bought a Powerball ticket in Gaston County is a one-million-dollar winner. A ticket sold at the Lowell Mini Mart on McAdenville Road matched the five white balls in Saturday night's drawing. No one had claimed the prize as of last night. The next Powerball jackpot drawing is worth 750-million-dollars since no one matched all numbers over the weekend.

Hornets Win On Half-Court Buzzer Beater

(Toronto) -- The Hornets are hanging around in the race for the final playoff spot in the East. Jeremy Lamb threw in a half-court shot at the buzzer to lead Charlotte to a 115-114 win over second-place Toronto yesterday. It was the third win in a row for the Hornets, who sit two games back of the last playoff spot with nine to go. Next up is a game against San Antonio at the Spectrum Center tomorrow night.

A Juvenile Is Accused Of Shooting, And Killing A Baby

(Cumberland Co., NC) -- Deputies in Cumberland County say a 21-day old baby was shot and killed by a juvenile Friday night. They say a family had just moved into the house on Cricket Road when their baby was killed. Police aren't identifying the juvenile, or saying how old they were, but they did say the juvenile and the infant weren't related.

Tarboro Man's Accused Of Cutting Hit Wife's Neck

(Tarboro, NC) -- A Tarboro man is accused of cutting his wife's throat. Deputies in Edgecomb County say 66-year-old Lester Davis was taken into custody yesterday after they responded to a domestic incident at a home on Woodcroft Lane. The sheriff's office says Davis is alleged to have cut the throat of his wife. She's been taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition. Specific charges haven't been announced yet.

Duke Makes The Sweet 16 After A Near Upset

(Columbia, SC) -- Duke is trying to get into the elite eight again. Yesterday, the number one seeded Duke nearly lost to UCF. The Blue Devils ended up beating number nine seeded UCF 77-76 with a couple big plays from a couple big players like Zion Williamson. Duke is again in the sweet 16, and the play Virginia Tech on Friday.

Victim Of A Durham Fire Is Identified

(Durham Co., NC) -- Firefighters in Durham County say they've taken out a wildfire. The fire broke out Sunday afternoon along U.S. 264. Fire crews evacuated five homes as a precaution, but the wind blew the fire away from these homes. More than 80 firefighters worked together to put the fire out, but not before the fire covered 70 to 80 acres. No one was injured. Firefighters put the blaze out in 10-minutes, but the cause of the fire isn't known.

Durham House Fire Kills One

(Durham, NC) -- One person is dead after a house fire in Durham. Authorities say a fire broke out Saturday on Horseshoe Road and only one person was able to escape. Firefighters did rescue a 73-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman. The older man was identified as William Davis, and he died at the hospital. The woman is expected to survive and the cause of the fire hasn't been identified.

Garner Homicide Investigation

(Garner, NC) -- Garner police are investigating a homicide. They say they found a 19-year-old man dead in a car last night near Vandora Springs Road. A woman found near the scene was taken to the hospital, but she's expected to survive. Police didn't say how they were injured. This isn't believed to have been a random incident, and anyone with information is asked to call police.

Person Shot At AMC Theaters In Concord

(Concord, NC) -- Police are looking for the gunman who opened fire inside of a movie theater northeast of Charlotte. The scene unfolded yesterday evening at AMC Theater at Concord Mills Mall. One man was shot but is expected to be okay. Police say the suspect and the victim got into a fight over seating and did not appear to know each other. They say the suspect is a man with short dreads and was wearing a black and white striped shirt at the time. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

Man Walking Along Street Shot In Winston-Salem

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem police are looking for a burgundy Volvo in connection with a shooting. Twenty-one-year-old Tyrell Boyd was shot yesterday while walking near 14th Street and Hattie Avenue. Police say he was hit twice and ran into a nearby home to escape the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to call Winston-Salem PD.

Teen Killed In Rural Hall Crash With Big-Rig

(Rural Hall, NC) -- A teenager is dead after a crash with a big-rig in Rural Hall. The accident happened Friday afternoon on Broad Street. Police say 18-year-old Jacy Swaim pulled out in front of a tractor-trailer and was hit. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died. Her 26-year-old passenger, Trey Swaim, was hurt and is in critical condition.

Small Plane Crashes In Caswell Co.

(Caswell Co., NC) -- An investigation is underway in Caswell County where a small plane crashed. The two-seater plane went down last night in the Blanch community off Blanch Road. Two people were hurt, one seriously. There's no word yet on what caused the plane to crash.

Duke Drops UCF To Reach Sweet 16

(Columbia, SC) -- Duke is headed back to the Sweet 16 for the fourth time in five seasons. The Blue Devils escaped with a 77-76 win in second round action yesterday against UCF. Top-seeded Duke will meet fourth-seeded Virginia Tech in the East Region semifinals on Friday.
