Boil Water Advisory Lifted In Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- The boil water advisory in Asheville is over. Crews wrapped up a 36-inch transmission line installation for the final phase of the North Fork Waterline Bypass Project on Saturday afternoon. The advisory was issued at time of completion until 2 p.m. Sunday. Some Asheville businesses were forced to close down when the advisory went into place.

Cold Front Bringing Plunging Temps

(Asheville, NC) -- A cold front is expected to pack a punch in western North Carolina this week. Rain moves in tonight, with a little snow hitting the higher mountain elevations. Temperatures won't make it out of the 30s in the region on Tuesday, with windy conditions making it feel much colder. The thermostat will plunge down into the teens by Tuesday night.

Governor Cooper Vetoes Teacher Pay Raise

(Raleigh, NC) -- Governor Roy Cooper is standing against a proposed teacher pay raise that he says would shortchange North Carolina educators. He vetoed two bills on Friday that would've given teachers a two-percent raise this year and another one-point-eight-percent for 2020-2021. His latest proposal of an eight-and-a-half-percent pay raise came in July. Cooper urged legislators from both parties to come together to negotiate the raises apart from Medicaid expansion.

Western North Carolina Communities Honor Veterans Today

(Asheville, NC) -- Mountain communities are saluting the men and women who have served our country in Veterans Day ceremonies. A celebration will be held from eleven-to-one today at the VA Medical Center in Asheville. Programs are also scheduled to begin at eleven at Forest Lawn in Hendersonville and the county courthouse gazebo on Main Street in Brevard. The town of Columbus is hosting a parade on Mills Street and a ceremony at Veterans Park this morning as well.

Asheville Art Museum Opening This Week After Expansion

(Asheville, NC) -- The expansion at the Asheville Art Museum is just about complete. The downtown museum opens up to the public on Thursday morning, with 54-thousand-square feet of additional space. WLOS-TV says that equates to about 70-percent extra room for exhibits. The project cost around 24-million-dollars. Museum officials will hold a ribbon-cutting Wednesday afternoon.

App State Scores First Win Over SEC Team

(Boone, NC) -- It's another marquee win for the Appalachian State football program. The Mountaineers defeated a Power Five school for the second time this season with a 20-to-15 win over South Carolina Saturday. It was their first-ever win over an SEC team, and follows a victory over UNC in September. The win enabled App State to climb back into the Coaches' Poll at number-24.

Suspect Arrested For South Charlotte Double Homicide

(Charlotte, NC) -- A 75-year-old man is being charged in a south Charlotte double homicide. The CMPD says two people died and three others were injured after a shooting on Lytham Drive early Saturday morning. Caldwell Cole Junior was arrested on two counts of murder and two counts of assault yesterday. Investigators say it began as an altercation and wasn't a random shooting.

Charlotte One Of Three Finalists For MLS Bid

(Charlotte, NC) -- The bid for a new franchise in Major League Soccer is coming down to Charlotte and two other cities. The commissioner of the MLS said on Friday that the league is expected to announce the team in the next few months from a list of Charlotte, Phoenix and Las Vegas. Multiple sources told the Charlotte Business Journal it may cost Panthers' owner David Tepper about 300-million-dollars in fees to bring a team to the Queen City. Ally Financial has already thrown backing behind the bid to be a lead sponsor.

Two Juveniles Escape Detention Center In Concord

(Concord, NC) -- Police are looking for two juveniles who escaped from the Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center in Concord. Public safety officials say there is a high degree of concern about their safety due to the unpredictability of juvenile behavior during an escape. The kids have only been identified as Christopher H. and Mikal [[ michael ]] M. They were last seen on Sunday afternoon.

American Airlines Passenger Charged For Sexual Misconduct

(Charlotte, NC) -- A passenger on a Charlotte to Salt Lake City flight is facing sexual misconduct charges. James Cholewinski-Boy [[ cole-WIN-skee boy ]] was removed from an American Airlines flight last Tuesday night after the plane was diverted to Tulsa. He was originally arrested for public intoxication. U.S. attorneys say the Utah man now faces a charge of engaging in unwanted sexual conduct with a female passenger.

One Dead In Lincoln County Deputy-Involved Shooting

(Lincoln County, NC) -- Lincoln County sheriff's investigators say a man was shot to death Friday night as he rushed towards deputies with a gun. They found 38-year-old Ray Correll with a gun to his head outside a home on Westdale Lane in Lincolnton. He allegedly fired shots into the ground before running at the deputies with the gun pointed at them. Correll died at the scene after they opened fire. The deputies are on administrative leave, which is policy.

Charlotte Communities Honor Veterans Today

(Charlotte, NC) -- Communities in and around the Charlotte area are saluting the men and women who have served our country in Veterans Day ceremonies. Huntersville, Mooresville and Gastonia all have Veterans Day parades and ceremonies today. More than four-thousand participants joined in for the American Airlines Salute to Veterans Parade along Tryon Street in Charlotte on Saturday. Veterans Day coincides with the anniversary of the end of World War One.

Police Investigating Fatal Shooting At Raleigh Home With Frequent Police Visits

(Raleigh, NC) -- Raleigh Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a home where officers have been called 30 times in the past year. The investigation began after a man's body was dropped off at WakeMed before dawn Sunday. Police say the man was shot at a home on Beverly Drive. The home is the site of more than two-dozen calls for assault, drug activity, and four gun-related reports, including the shooting Sunday morning.

Durham Football Players Join Local Leaders In Pledging End To Gun Violence

(Durham, NC) -- High school football players and Durham leaders are pledging to end gun violence. Players from Southern High School stood with church leaders and elected officials, including Sheriff Clarence Birkhead on Sunday. Everyone who stood during the rally at Southern High pledged they will not pick up a gun to settle a personal problem. More than 50 people turned out for the rally, which was organized by the football players.

Panthers Fall To Packers, 24-16 At Snowy Lambeau Field

(Green Bay, WI) -- Solid performances by Christian McCaffrey and Kyle Allen weren't enough for the Panthers to keep up with the Packers as Green Bay held on for a 24-16 win at Lambeau Field. McCaffrey rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown but the Pack stopped him at the goal line as time ran out to hold the win for Green Bay. Allen threw for 307 yards with one TD and an interception as the Panthers fell to 5-and-4.

Durham Emu Found Safe After Weeks On The Run

(Durham, NC) -- An emu that was on the run in Durham for two or three weeks is safe. Sheriff's deputies cornered the flightless bird named Darwin in the woods near Carrington Middle School and returned him to his owner on Saturday. Darwin had been showing up in North Durham neighborhoods since he took off late last month. The emu's owner, Jurgen Henn, thinks the big bird might have run off because two other emus Henn owns were bullying Darwin.

Woman Shot In Leg After Confrontation At McDonald's

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A woman is recovering from a gunshot wound after a confrontation at a McDonald's in Winston-Salem. The scene unfolded around 4:15 Saturday afternoon at the McDonald's on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Police say Dlesjah Jones got out of her vehicle to confront another driver for almost hitting her, and that's when she was shot in the leg. The suspect took off south down MLK. Jones was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Man Breaks Back In Greensboro Hit-And-Run

(Greensboro, NC) -- A man is in the hospital with a broken back after a hit-and-run accident in Greensboro. It happened Saturday night on East Wendover Avenue and Lindsay Street. Dennis Carter was found laying in the middle of the road. Police say he was less than a mile from his home. He's expected to survive. No suspect information was released.

Hundreds Attend Winston-Salem Veterans Day Parade

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem is putting the wraps on a very successful Veterans Day parade. Hundreds of people attended the annual event Saturday along 4th Street. The parade featured a ceremony and 21-gun salute. Mayor Allen Joines, U.S. Congresswoman Virginia Foxx and multiple veterans were there to celebrate.

Government Offices Closed Today

(Guilford Co., NC) -- State, county and local government offices will be closed today in observance of Veterans Day. That includes U.S. post offices, schools and libraries. There will be no GTA service today. Veterans Day is an annual day to honor men and women who served in the U.S. military.
