(Buncombe County, NC) -- Buncombe County residents are soon expected to be ordered to stay at home. Commission chairman Brownie Newman signaled he may be executing an emergency order today. The anticipated decision comes after public health officials announced 16 coronavirus cases in Buncombe County as of yesterday. Stay-at-home declarations usually allow residents to go out for essential needs.

Coronavirus Cases Top 500 In NC

(Raleigh, NC) -- Coronavirus cases now top more than a half-thousand in North Carolina. The News and Observer reported last night numbers have climbed to 513. In western North Carolina, McDowell County confirmed its first two cases yesterday. No deaths have been reported in the state.

City Council Gives Mayor More Power In State Of Emergency

(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville's mayor is being given more power during the coronavirus pandemic. The city council approved an ordinance yesterday which allows Esther Manheimer the ability to put a curfew in place and issue evacuations. The mayor already urged residents to understand the importance of social distancing. The city has been under a state of emergency since last week.

Part Of BRP Shutting Down

(Undated) -- Park closures are continuing over coronavirus concerns. The southernmost 14 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway is shutting down. All parkway restrooms and the Asheville visitor center already closed. Most of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park shut down yesterday.

Asheville Bus Rides Limited To Ten

(Asheville, NC) -- Rides on Asheville's transit buses are being restricted to ten people at the most. The city said yesterday it will be adding extra buses on the routes starting today since the ridership size of ten will now mirror what's in Asheville's state of emergency. ART buses are currently fare-free.

Part Of WNC Under Flash Flood Watch

(Undated) -- The far southwestern corner of the state is under a flash flood watch this morning. A strong rain system was expected to drop an inch or two of rain in the region overnight. The watch area is Graham, Swain and Macon counties. The rain will make way for sun today.

Stay-At-Home Order Issued For Mecklenburg County

(Mecklenburg County, NC) -- Mecklenburg County is going under a stay-at-home order. Yesterday's proclamation will run through April 16th. Residents are only allowed to leave the home for essential needs, which includes grocery store runs and medical reasons. Only those who work in jobs considered essential can otherwise be out.

Coronavirus Cases Top 140 In Meck

(Charlotte, NC) -- More coronavirus cases are centered in Mecklenburg County than anywhere else in the state. Public health officials said yesterday the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 142 in Mecklenburg. North Carolina numbers as a whole pushed to over 500. There are over 340 cases in South Carolina.

One Dead In Chesterfield Stabbing

(Chesterfield County, SC) -- A homicide is being investigated in Chesterfield County. Deputies found a man reportedly stabbed to death inside a home in the Cash community yesterday. There's no word on any arrests, or if a lookout has been placed for any suspects.

Emergency Blood Drives Coming Up In Gaston

(Gaston County, NC) -- The Red Cross is in desperate need of blood as drives have been canceled over the coronavirus. There are five emergency drives coming up in Gaston County through April 2nd. They're all being held at the Pharr YMCA in McAdenville. Donors and volunteers are screened beforehand.

Garth Brooks' Concert Rescheduled

(Charlotte, NC) -- The Charlotte concert for Garth Brooks is being postponed to June. The country music star was originally set to take the stage at Bank of America Stadium on May 2nd. The show is being put off due to the coronavirus outbreak to June 13th. The concert is sold-out.

Executive Order Closing Non-Essential Businesses To Take Effect Today

(Raleigh, NC) -- Governor Roy Cooper's executive order imposing new restrictions on all non-essential businesses is set to go into effect at 5 p.m. Businesses such as hair and nail salons, health spas, movie theaters, and organizations where groups can congregate have been ordered to close. The executive order also bans gatherings of more than 50-people.

No More Pistol Permits Being Issued In Wake County

(Wake County, NC) -- The Wake County Sheriff's Office has announced it will temporarily suspend its review of new applications for pistol and concealed carry permits. Sheriff Gerald Baker citing the recent surge in applications amid the coronavirus outbreak, overwhelming the Department's ability to process the applications. Pistol permit applications averaged 290-a day last week. That compares to just 90-a day during the same time a year ago. The suspension will be in effect through April 30th.

Triangle Whole Foods Limiting The Number Of Shoppers In Stores At One Time

(Raleigh, NC) -- A number of Whole Foods locations in the Triangle have implemented new rules designed to curb the spread of the coronavirus. At some smaller stores, the company is only allowing 30-people at a time to enter the premises. At other stores, customers are being asked to line up in marked spaces six feet apart. After one customer exits the store, then others will be allowed in.

North Carolina Photo Voter ID Law To Remain Blocked

(Raleigh, NC) -- A three judge panel of the North Carolina Court of Appeals has rejected a request to rehear a challenge to a federal judge's ruling, blocking the state's photo voter ID law from being enforced. The request was made by Republican members of the North Carolina General Assembly. The Appeals Court gave no reason for its denial Tuesday, which means voters will likely not have to present photo ID's in the fall elections.

(High Point, NC) - Wake Forest Baptist Health in High Point is treating its first patient for COVID-19. The patient is reportedly doing well and is in isolation at the hospital. Public health authorities are contacting anyone who may have come in contact with the patient.

Woman Found Dead In Winston-Salem, Suspect Involved In OIS

(Winston-Salem, NC) - The suspect in a homicide investigation is recovering after a crash and officer-involved shooting in Winston-Salem. Christopher Mock is wanted in the disappearance and murder of Toni Handy, who was last seen on Friday at the Murphy Express gas station where she worked. Handy was found dead at her home yesterday, and Mock was identified as a suspect in the case. He was taken to the hospital yesterday afternoon after a crash that ended in a deputy-involved shooting. An investigation is ongoing.

Panthers Release Former Number One Pick Newton

(Charlotte, NC) - Another number-one overall pick is now a free agent. The Carolina Panthers said goodbye to Cam Newton yesterday, cutting ties with the quarterback who led them to Super Bowl 50. Releasing the quarterback saves Carolina 19-point-one-million dollars in salary cap space. Newton was the first overall pick out of Auburn in 2011 after winning the Heisman Trophy.
