Pearl Jam have always been outspoken voter rights advocates, and stepped it up during the 2020 election. Now that the presidential election is over, all eyes are on Georgia as two key Senate runoff races are set to take place next month. With early voting now open, the band teamed up with Lin-Manuel Miranda for a virtual fundraiser where they'll chat about art, music and activism while raising money to help engage Latino voters in Georgia.
To help promote the event, Miranda shared a brief cover of Pearl Jam's 1993 track “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town" on Twitter.
"Elderly Composer Behind The Keyboard In A Messy Office," the Hamilton creator captioned the video, poking fun of the title. "(I'm so sorry @PearlJam, you play it so much better, see you Wednesday night) #PearlJamuelMiranda"
See his post below.
The fundraiser is set to take place Wednesday (December 16) at 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT and ticket info can be found here.
“I’ve long admired Pearl Jam’s music and commitment to advocacy — and their music has made an impact on me since I was a teenager,” Miranda said in a statement about the event.
“Georgia came through for America and now it’s time for America to come through for Georgia,” Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder added. “We — along with millions of others — are fans of Lin-Manuel for both his art and his activism and we are excited to work together to support progressive organizations Latino Victory Project, Latino Community Fund of Georgia, and The Hispanic Federation. We hope you will join us live on December 16th as we talk music, art and activism.”
