(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville police say the man wanted for a weekend murder in the River Arts District should be considered armed and dangerous. Tyrell Warren is charged with murder in the death of Brian Wilson Junior. Warren was spotted in a stolen vehicle late Monday night, but he took off on foot and has not been seen since. (Buncombe Co., NC) -- Buncombe County Commissioners are voting in favor of a racial equity action plan. They unanimously approved the 23-page plan during their meeting yesterday. North Carolina Projecting Several Billions In Revenue

(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina is anticipating two-billion dollars more in revenue than previously expected. That's according to Governor Roy Cooper's budget office and the legislature's fiscal research team. Their report shows one-point-nine-billion dollars in extra revenue collections for the year ending June 30th. There is also an increased projected revenue of well over two-billion over the next two years. Economists say a post-pandemic boost in the economy is to thank.

Mecklenburg County Ends Agreement With Historic Latta Place

(Huntersville, NC) -- Mecklenburg County is ending its agreement with Historic Latta Place to manage Latta Plantation. The agreement has been in place since the 70s, but will now end at the end of this month. This comes after a Juneteenth event was planned in which stories would be shared from the perspective of a slave owner. Mecklenburg County says the event was a violation of its lease because Historic Latta Place was supposed to notify them of events six weeks in advance.

Charlotte City Council Member Speaks Out Against Direct Donations To Homeless

(Charlotte, NC) -- A Charlotte City Council member wants to curb donations given directly to homeless people in the city. Tariq Bokhari instead wants to see money go to non-profit organizations designed to help the homeless. At Monday's meeting, he called it a "heavier dose of tough love." As part of Bokhari's remarks, he suggested implementing a misdemeanor charge for those who donate directly to people experiencing homelessness.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Planning Commission Committee Recommends 2040 Plan

(Charlotte, NC) -- The Charlotte Mecklenburg Planning Commission's Planning Committee is recommending the approval of the city's 2040 plan. The unanimous vote came last night. The 2040 plan considers input from residents collected at town halls and forums over the past three years. Final approval is up to the City Council.

Senior Living Community Removing Word 'Plantation' From Street Signs

(Matthews, NC) -- A senior living community just southeast of Charlotte is removing the word "plantation" from street names. Once called Plantation Estates, the community changed its name to Matthews Glen in 2020. Now the town of Matthews and Mecklenburg County is allowing the community to also change street names. Plantation Estates Drive, Plantation Clubhouse Drive, and Plantation Crossing Drive were all officially renamed this week, with street signs being changed immediately.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Commending SWAT's De-Escalation Successes

(Mecklenburg County, NC) -- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is recognizing their SWAT team for successful de-escalation practices. SWAT responded to four incidents so far in June. In these situations, the suspects had barricaded themselves inside homes. Officers did not fire any shots during the standoffs, and no officers were hurt.

Land Of Oz In Beech Mountain Reopens

(Beech Mountain, NC) -- The Land of Oz is opening its doors this Friday. The popular theme park in Beech Mountain takes visitors on a trip down the Yellow Brick Road. The 90-minute tour features Gale Farm in Kansas, the Judy Garland Memorial Overlook and the tornado cellar. Tickets are sold out for the tour, but they're still available for the Autumn of Oz festival in September. They go on sale June 30th.

Suspect Who Fired Shots At Winston-Salem Police Accused Of Murder

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- A man accused of firing into a Winston-Salem police office is now accused of murdering his mother and grandmother. Twenty-six-year-old William Scott was taken into custody Monday after leading police on a chase. Afterward, Forsyth County sheriff's deputies went to the suspect's two homes to check on his family members. His mother, 62-year-old Kimberly Scott, was found dead in one of the homes, and his grandmother, Glenda Corriher, was found dead in the other. Their deaths are being investigated as homicides.

Man Found Dead At Bur-Mil Park In Guilford Co.

(Guilford Co., NC) -- Greensboro police are investigating a death at Bur-Mil Park. A man was found unconscious yesterday morning on Big Loop Trail. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Foul play is not suspected. Big Loop Trail was closed to the public during the investigation.

Waste Management Worker Killed In Winston-Salem

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- An investigation is underway after a Waste Management worker was killed in Winston-Salem. It happened Friday afternoon at the landfill on West Hanes Mill Road. The North Carolina Department of Labor says 63-year-old Thomas Thompson was working when he became pinned between a truck and a bulldozer. OSHA is looking into the incident.

NCCP: Deadly Crashes In NC Have Increased

(Undated) -- Deadly crashes in North Carolina have risen in the past year. Statistics from the State Highway Patrol show an almost ten-percent increase from 2020. The number of fatal accidents have already increased from 592 to 648. Authorities say speeding is still a major cause of deadly crashes in the state.
