Four Charged In Connection To Macon County Homicide

(Macon County, NC) -- Four people are facing charges in a western North Carolina homicide case. Investigators were just able to confirm this week that remains found at a Macon County encampment in May were those of Tina Walkingstick Frizsell, who had been reported missing. Identification took longer than normal because her remains had been desecrated in a burn pit. A 44-year-old from Otto is charged with murder, while three others are accused of crimes connected to the case.

Elections Board Responds To Carlson Guest

The board says Russell Vought spread false information about voter fraud in the state on Tucker Carlson's show less than a week ago. The order which went into effect in March 2020 ended yesterday, but state officials maintain they'll still be focused on COVID trends and data to stay prepared. Governor Roy Cooper said emergency orders issued under the order protected public health, and North Carolina is emerging stronger than ever before.

Flooding Funds Discussed In Haywood County

(Haywood County, NC) -- Plans are being laid for how flooding relief funds will be distributed in Haywood County. It's been around a year since the remnants from Tropical Storm Fred ravaged western North Carolina. Public safety officials revealed in a public hearing yesterday that close to 90-percent of the eight-million-dollars coming to Haywood County will go towards an affordable housing development fund.

Reward Offered In Death Of NC Deputy

(Wake County, NC) -- A massive reward is being offered in the death investigation of a Wake County deputy. It was last Thursday night when Deputy Ned Byrd was shot to death while responding to a domestic disturbance call. It marked the seventh time in three weeks that a North Carolina law enforcement officer had been killed or injured by gunfire. The state sheriff's association is offering up 100-thousand-dollars for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Buncombe County Seeks More Affordable Housing Funds

(Buncombe County, NC) -- Work is underway to secure more funding for affordable housing in Buncombe County. WLOS-TV says county leaders are applying for a community development block grant, which could go to housing rehab and affordable developments. Funds in the statewide 20-million-dollar award are maxed out just under one-million-dollars for each recipient.

Union County K-9 Named After Public Input

(Union County, NC) -- The public has helped name the new K-9 officer for Union County. More than two-thousand votes were cast for the name of an eleven-week-old German Shepherd who will serve for the sheriff's office. The winning entry was Griff. The name will honor Sergeant Brian Griffin for his dedication to the county's K-9 program.

Lancaster Student Found With Gun On First Day Of School

(Lancaster, SC) -- The first day of school in Lancaster didn't go without problems. An eighth grader at South Middle School was charged after a gun was found in a backpack on the first day of class Monday. There were no threats made using the gun. The child was taken to a juvenile center for carrying a weapon on school property.

Gas Prices Still Sliding In Charlotte Metro

(Charlotte, NC) -- The plummet in gas prices across metro Charlotte is continuing. Triple-A reports the cost for a gallon of regular unleaded is three-69 this morning, which is eleven-cents less than last week. It's also a drop of more than 50-cents from the same time last month.

(Foxborough, MA) -- Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold are being listed as co-starters for the Panthers ahead of this week's preseason game. Carolina begins joint practice with the New England Patriots tomorrow in Foxborough. They'll meet on the field for a preseason match-up on Friday. 13-People Injured In Multi-Vehicle Pileup On I-95 In Johnston County Monday Night

(Johnston County, NC) -- Authorities in Johnston County are investigating an interstate pileup Monday night that resulted in 13-people being injured. Four of them were taken to a nearby hospital. It happened around 8 p.m. in both the north and southbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 87 and the town of Four Oaks. Police say several vehicles were involved in two separate chain reaction crashes, including two 18-wheelers. None of the injuries were considered to be life threatening.

Investigators Looking For White Pickup Truck Believed To Be Involved In Fatal Shooting Of Wake County Sheriff's Deputy

(Wake County, NC) -- The Wake County Sheriff's Office has released surveillance images of a vehicle believed to have been involved in the fatal shooting of Deputy Ned Byrd last Thursday. The vehicle is described as a white colored single-cab Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon. The deadly shooting happened on Battle Bridge Road near the intersection of Auburn-Knightdale Road. The North Carolina Sheriff's Association has posted a 100-thousand dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of the alleged shooter.

Leaders At WakeMed Want To Build Two New Hospitals In Order To Keep Up With Demand

(Wake County, NC) -- Officials at WakeMed filed certificates of need with the State on Monday, requesting permission to build two new hospitals. One would be a 45-bed facility in Garner, the other would be an additional 150-bed mental health hospital in eastern Wake County. WakeMed leaders cited unprecedented population growth and an increasing number of adults and children needing mental health care as the reason for requesting expansion. If approved, construction would begin in 2024 and completed by 2027.

Social District In Downtown Raleigh Officially Opened For Business On Monday

(Raleigh, NC) -- Monday marked the first day of operation for the City of Raleigh's new Social District. The District, known called 'Sip and Stroll' is a designated area along Fayetteville Street where patrons are allowed to carry open containers of alcohol outside from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. seven days a week. More than 60-bars and restaurants are participating.

NC State Receives Second 13th Ranking In Pre-Season College Football Poll

(Raleigh, NC) -- One week after receiving a number 13-ranking in the pre-season college football coaches poll, the NC State Wolfpack was awarded with another number 13-pre-season ranking Monday, in the AP Top 25 Poll. It's the first time State has been ranked as high as 13-in the pre-season since 1975. Four other ACC schools were also ranked in the Top 25, including Clemson at number four, Miami at 16, Pittsburg at 17 and Wake Forest at number 22.

Body Found Shot to Death on Obrien Street in Greensboro

(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro Police are investigating the death of a person who was found shot to death on the city's southwest side. Officers were called to the 2000 block of Obrien Street just after 10 p.m. Police haven't said whether the victim was a man or woman and also haven't said if they have any suspects in custody.

Metal Detector Use at Tanger Center on Agenda for Tuesday

(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro's Tanger Fine Arts Center is asking the city council to approve four new metal detectors. Officials there hope having more security lanes will help speed up the process up for patrons to get inside. The Tanger Center says it often sells out its Broadway shows, comedy performances and concerts so the new devices are very much needed. The new units will be leased for four years at a cost of nearly 300-thousand dollars.

Police Asking for Tips About Saturday Night Shooting

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem Police hope someone will come forward with more information about a shooting Saturday night near the 25-hundred block of Urban Street. Three people were injured and officials say they were driven to Atrium Baptist Medical Center a little before 9:30 with non-critical injuries. Evidence collected at the scene indicates that several shots were fired; three cars and a home were also hit by the gunfire.

Data Breach Reported for Novant Health Patients

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Certain patients of Novant Health will soon get letters in the mail warning them that their personal data may have been compromised. Novant Health's website says the compromise may have happened through a tracking tool linked to Facebook. The action was part of a marketing campaign the hospital system started in May 2020. Novant Health says it immediately disabled the tool when it found out some personal information may have been breached.

Sunday Concert Will Help Family of Beloved Community Singer

(Jamestown, NC) -- A concert this coming Sunday is being staged to remember a musician who enriched the lives of others in and around High Point. Several bands throughout the Triad are planning to honor Antawon Ingram who died last month in a traffic accident in High Point. Officials say he suffered from epilepsy and may have had a seizure before he crashed. The concert will take place August 21 at The Deck in Jamestown, NC beginning at 12 noon.
