State Sues Google
(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina's attorney general is taking on a technology giant. Josh Stein filed a lawsuit yesterday against Google for creating what he calls a monopoly in digital advertising technology. Over a dozen other states are part of the complaint. Stein said the law requires Google to fight fair.
Two Deer Killed At WNC Nature Center
(Asheville, NC) -- The Western North Carolina Nature Center is taking steps to avoid bear problems. Two white-tailed deer were found dead in their enclosure after an apparent encounter with a wild black bear. The nature center's director says it was an unfortunate accident that's never occurred within the animal collection. Changes have been made to perimeter fencing in the meantime.
Study Recommends Putting Commission Employees Under Tourism Branch
(Asheville, NC) -- A new study is recommending that two sports commission employees move under the umbrella of Explore Asheville. The Asheville-Buncombe sports commission was responsible for heading up the Southern Conference basketball tournaments and Billie Jean King tennis tournament. A study conducted recently shows that Explore Asheville should be in charge of the employees and recommended a merger.
Horse Shot To Death In Henderson County
(Henderson County, NC) -- Henderson County's sheriff wants to know who shot a horse. The owner says he and his family showed up to a rented pasture on Hyder Allen Road, where a horse named Cinch was found shot to death on Saturday. The suspect is expected to be charged with animal cruelty.
Couple Robbed At Gunpoint In Downtown
(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville police are looking for a suspect in a downtown armed robbery. Investigators say a man and woman were held up at gunpoint after having dinner around North Market Street last week. The woman was pushed to the ground, but didn't suffer any major injuries. Buncombe County sheriff's deputies are starting to help Asheville police in downtown patrols.
Gas Prices Up In NC
(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville's gas prices are on a steady increase over the past month. Triple-A says a gallon of regular unleaded sits at three-43-a-gallon. That's up eight-cents from a week ago and 18-cents above last month. The statewide is significantly higher at three-54.
One Dead, One Injured In Charlotte Shooting
(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a deadly double shooting. One person was killed and another was injured when shots were fired on Lakewood Avenue near Grant Street last night. There's no word on any suspect arrests.
Suspect Arrested In Romare Bearden Park Shooting
(Charlotte, NC) -- A man is accused of shooting two peopled in a Charlotte park. The victims were assaulted in Romare Bearden Park on Sunday afternoon. Officers arrested the suspect for attempted murder, assault and other charges. The suspect and victims reportedly got into verbal argument ahead of the shooting.
Former Panther Christ Smith Dies
(Charlotte, NC) -- A former Panther and Charlotte native is dead. Chris Smith recently passed away from causes not yet revealed. He attended West Rowan High School before attending the University of Arkansas. The 31-year-old played for the Panthers in 2020.
Charlotte Church Has Been Paying Power Bill For Soccer Field
(Charlotte, NC) -- A south Charlotte church is footing the power bill for park lights. WSOC-TV reports St. Francis United Methodist Church has been getting bills for power at a soccer field that belongs to Mecklenburg County. The church's chairman of the board says St. Francis paid roughly 67-thousand-dollars over 16-years.
Residents Against Plaza Midwood Building
(Charlotte, NC) -- Some Charlotte residents are against a proposed development in the Plaza Midwood area. Opponents spoke out against a 15-story building on Commonwealth Avenue during a meeting last night. WCNC says the building would be three-times the height of the apartment building next door. City planners are recommending the project be turned down unless the height drops to ten-stories.

(Cabarrus County, NC) -- A Kannapolis man is a major winner in two lottery games. The man won over 180-thousand-dollars in a Cash Five jackpot drawing in January. He just won another million-dollars from scratch-off ticket last week. The ticket was bought at the Willow Oaks BP in Concord.
Goldsboro City Council Meeting Packed With Citizens Frustrated With Gun Violence
(Goldsboro, NC) -- Dozens of citizens showed up for a rally inside the Goldsboro City Council chambers Monday night, to protest rising gun violence. This, as the search for suspects wanted in connection with a fatal mass shooting last week entered its sixth day. Community leaders, along with friends and family members of the six victims, told the Council that immediate action to curb gun violence needs to be taken, including a new curfew for juveniles. Others called for the venue where the deadly shooting took place to be shut down. Meanwhile, the funeral for 15-year old Joyonna Pearsall will be held tomorrow.
Crash Between School Bus And Car Sends Both Drivers To The Hospital; Students Were Not Hurt
(Johnston County, NC) -- A crash between a Johnston County school bus and a four-door sedan sent both drivers to the hospital on Monday. It happened just after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Brogden Road and Brogden School Road. Sheriff's deputies say the driver of the car was attempting to pass the bus in a no passing zone, when the collision occurred. Fortunately, none of the students on board were hurt. However, the driver of the car was treated at WakeMed for serious injuries.
Moore County Student Arrested For Making Terrorist Threats
(Moore County, NC) -- A Moore County student was arrested yesterday for making threats to commit mass violence against a school. It happened at an off-campus location near Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst. Authorities shut down the campus and later traced the social media threats to 22-year old Caleb Moore of Taylortown. He was charged with one count of felony communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property and one count of felony possession of a firearm on educational property. Moore is scheduled to make his first court appearance today.
Search Continues For Three Suspects Who Stole Cars From Two Separate Locations Over The Weekend
(Henderson, NC) -- Police in Henderson are asking the public for help in identifying three suspects who allegedly stole vehicles from separate auto dealerships this past weekend. The first were taken from the showroom floor of Charles Boyd Chevrolet on Ruin Creek Road early Sunday morning. Investigators believe the same trio hit another dealership about 200-miles away at the Marion Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership in Marion County. Images of the three suspects have been posted on social media.
VinFast Announces Second Shipment Of Electric SUV's Are On Their Way To North America
(Chatham County, NC) -- Vietnamese automaker VinFast announced Monday, the shipment of its second batch of Electric Vehicles to the U.S. and Canada. VinFast, which is currently building a four-billion dollar plant in Chatham County, said around 18-hundred-79 VF8 model SUV's are expected to arrive via cargo ship in about 20 days. Eleven hundred of them will be sold across America. The luxury EV's will retail for about 60-thousand dollars.
Canes Knock Off Islanders In First Game Of Stanley Cup Playoff Series
(Raleigh, NC) -- The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the New York Islanders 2-1 in Game One of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last night at PNC Arena. Both of the Canes scores came on power plays between Martin Necas and Brent Burns in the first and second periods. Antti Raanta also made 25-saves for Carolina, as the good guys blocked all four of the Islanders power plays. Game Two of the playoff series will take place tomorrow night at PNC Arena.
Two Winston-Salem Shooting Victims Expected to Recover
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem Police say a 22-year-old man and 20-year-old woman are expected to recover after they were shot Monday night. Officers responded to the 2600 block of Toddler Place Drive around 7:00 p.m. to find Brianna Washington had been shot in the leg and James Cuthrell Junior had been shot in his buttocks. They were able to describe the shooter and told police he was in a black Nissan sedan. Officials say they found the car but no one's been arrested yet.
Man Arrested For Allegedly Holding up Convenience Stores, Gas Station
(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro police say they've arrested a 44-year-old man for reportedly robbing five convenience stores and gas stations. Officials believe Antoine Jones robbed two stores on April 5th and two more a couple of days later. The locations include the Circle K on West Wendover Avenue and the Speedway also on Wendover in the two-thousand block. Jones is also suspected of robbing the Walgreens on Randleman Road and the Great Stops store on North Church Street.
Aviation Company to Expand in Greensboro
(Greensboro, NC) -- Officials at TAT Piedmont Aviation say they've decided to go ahead with an expansion project at its Greensboro facility. The move reportedly will invest nearly 14-milion dollars and create 85 new jobs. The company, a subsidiary of TAT Technologies Limited, currently has about 125 employees at the facility on Cessna Drive. Incentive packages for TAT from both the state and the City of Greensboro total about 266-thousand-dollars.
State Holds Public Meeting Today on 2 Proposed Hospitals in Greensboro
(Greensboro, NC) -- Cone Health and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist are reportedly battling over a proposed hospital in Greensboro. Atrium has applied to state officials to relocate 36 acute care beds and two operating rooms from its High Point Medical Center. Cone Health says the planned hospital is too close to one they're proposing at a site on Horse Pen Creek Road, which would be known as Greensboro Medical Center. A public meeting on both proposals will take place today at 1 p.m. at the Benjamin branch of the Greensboro Public Library.
Triad Stage to Close, Citing Financial Troubles
(Greensboro, NC) -- The Triad Stage theater organization in Greensboro has canceled an upcoming production and stopped its operations due to financial challenges. The theatre posted a notice on its website that it has canceled an upcoming production of "The Cake"and also is pausing ticket sales, subscriptions and non-essential operations. The company adds that it's "considering available options" for its more than 2,500 season ticket holders. Its co-founder and artistic director stepped down in 2020 due to accusations of sexual abuse.
