When choosing a restaurant, many diners decide to frequent well-known eateries and even popular chains for a meal they can expect to be delicious. However, some of the best restaurants are the hidden gems and locally beloved establishments that have become a staple of their community.

Cheapism searched around the country for the "best under-the-radar steakhouse" in every state, choosing to celebrate the "chef- or family-owned steak joints" with stellar ratings and reviews over the "well-known chains" and other "usual suspects."

So which underrated North Carolina steakhouse stands out among the rest?

The Angus Barn

This Raleigh restaurant, which was praised for its mouthwatering cuts, has been a staple of the community for decades and is described on its website as "fine Southern Dining." The Angus Barn, which has a 4.6 star rating and more than 9,000 reviews, is located at 9401 Glenwood Avenue.

Here's what Cheapism had to say about this popular establishment:

"Opened in 1960 only to be destroyed by fire, the Angus Barn rose from the ashes in 1965 to offer 11 perfectly aged cuts. Try the 14-ounce certified Angus rib-eye. Dinners come with a choice of three sides and freshly baked bread; homemade crackers are served at every table."
